Dante André-Kahan Plays John Abercrombie at Frankie’s After Dark

May 29 @ 11:00 PM - 12:15 AM
$10
Dante André-Kahan is a guitarist and composer from the Saanich Peninsula on Vancouver Island.
While he initially studied musicology and classical guitar at the University of Victoria, Dante has found a home in the Victoria and Vancouver jazz scenes. Dante’s approach to performance and composition draws from several musical traditions including the many styles of jazz, folk music from around the world, classical music, ambient music, and several others. Above all, his goal when making music is to be as true as possible to the moment.
Dante first had the idea to perform the music of John Abercrombie’s Third Quartet at the beginning of the CoViD-19 pandemic, listening to Abercrombie’s albums while working in his grandparents’ garden. This group wrote tunes that cross over many styles and leave a lot of room for exploration of sound, while also offering beautiful, memorable melodies. Dante feels that Abercrombie’s music deeply complements the landscapes and cities of coastal British Columbia, and looks forward to bringing it back to Vancouver.
