Róisín Adams’ visionary work combines ethereal, textured melodicism with an underpinning of intellectual rigor. An imaginative and prolific composer, pianist, bandleader and educator, Adams is also an astute collaborator in a range of projects. She founded the improvisatory instrumental jazz quartet Hildegard’s Ghost in 2013, and also performs with contemporary electro-acoustic trio Beatings Are in the Body featuring Erika Angell and Peggy Lee. As an improviser, Adams has performed with Jay Clayton, Clyde Reed, Sina Ettehad and Erika Angell. Adams has expanded upon her classical through studies with jazz and avant-garde artists Kris Davis, Amanda Tosoff and Vicky Chow.
The New Thing is a monthly series dedicated to free jazz and improvised music. It’s co-presented by Infidels Jazz & NOW Society, and takes place at Zameen Art House one Friday a month.
