Mike WT Allen’s Space Elevator makes its long-awaited return to the Rickshaw to celebrate the release of their forthcoming album, to be released on the Infidels Jazz label! Traveling between big band jazz, heavy metal, funk, and avant-garde, Space Elevator never ceases to evolve & grow, with each concert taking it’s audience on a surreal exploration of what contemporary experimental music can sound like. Featuring performances by Missy D, Leda XO from the Hallowed Catharsis & Joel Parent from Ninjaspy, this return to the Rickshaw will shine a spotlight on Space Elevator’s new album, and will feature an opening set by Vancouver’s hottest young fusion shredders, Chopping Spree!

Mike WT Allen’s Space Elevator is the twenty person jazz-metal orchestra powerhouse that serves as Mike’s little creative baby. That means all the composition, arranging, organizing, and general band-ing is done by Mike. Boasting 14 horns, 2 guitars, keys, bass, and two drummers, the music is loud, complicated, and exciting!

Chopping Spree is a jazz fusion/experimental band that delves into the groovy, energetic world of jazz rock. They blend elements of Japanese jazz, funk, and psychedelia, with the explosive energy of Vancouver’s underground hard rock scene. Sometimes smooth jazz, sometimes metal, Chopping Spree is a sight to see with their wild stage presence and captivating riffs. Taking influence from the likes of Casiopea, SOIL & “PIMP” SESSIONS, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, their unique style creates a soundscape of hypnotic proportions.
