Grinningly growling its way out of the darkness, Lone Bear, Vancouver’s most playfully mauling instrumental trio, unleashes its love of heavy grooves, pretty songs and no-rules improvisation in their first performance at the Painted Ship. Featuring a lineup of LB players (guitarist Jeff Younger, bassist Karlis Silins, and drummer Max Ley), the band mashes classic hits from The Temptations, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Beatles through a celestial arrangement funhouse and a free jazz improv blender. There’s a good chance a couple of Younger’s original compositions will make an appearance too. Always beastly, always fun, and always an unpredictable musical adventure.
