Clara is a pianist and composer born in Shenzhen, a newborn urban city in southern China. She grew up classically trained and exposed to urban music like R&B, gospel, Soul, and cantonese pop. At 18, she discovered Jazz and was drawn to music by Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Fred Hersch as she went to the United States to study classical music. She then traveled to many places and spent most of her time digging into Jazz-related contemporary music. Clara’s music aims to tell a story that threads together all the places she had been living in that ended up in Vancouver, her generation of displacement, and nostalgia for a never-go-back homeland through all the musical languages that have influenced her over time.
For her very first Frankie’s Performance she will be joined by Dan Howard on Bass & Todd Stewart on Drums.
Frankie’s After Dark takes place every Friday and Saturday at Frankie’s Jazz Club in downtown Vancouver and is curated by Tim Reinert of Infidels Jazz. Shows start at 11:00PM and tickets are $10
