Montreal based drummer Julian Ferrer and guitarist Daniel Marmer became inspired to explore the rich repertoire of jazz drummers throughout history under the mentorship of Ira Coleman and Darrell Green, musicians who have studied and played with legendary drummers Max Roach, Tony Williams, and Elvin Jones. These drummers were at the forefront of the genre in their time, pushing to explore West African, Fusion, and contemporary jazz influences. Their impact is seen to this day through contemporaries Makaya McCraven, Marquis Hill, Joel Ross, and many more.
Filling out the band are trumpeter virtuoso Owen Chow and grooving bassist Raphael Agustin, long-time collaborators from Vancouver and classmates during their studies at McGill University. Marmer and Ferrer have gained recognition recently, awarded the 2023 Oscar Peterson Grant and Fraser MacPherson Scholarship respectively. Transcendent collective interaction and intense story telling are at the centre of this group’s core values. Visit at Frankie’s After Dark on July 19th at 11pm for an action-packed night to remember!
