SUMMARY:TangoMundo at Moberly Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Australian Tango Ensemble performs the music of Astor Piazzolla \nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\nOn May 03\, Australian Tango virtuosos TangoMundo celebrate the release of their new album by performing Astor Piazzolla’s music at the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre in Vancouver. \nTangoMundo brings to the stage Piazzolla repertoire rarely heard internationally\, drawing from across his restless\, rule-breaking career. This is Buenos Aires after dark: gritty\, volatile\, and electrically alive. The new arrangements on Piazzolla Unleashed are crafted especially for TangoMundo by Argentine tango scholar and composer Guillermo Anad (Académico Correspondiente\, National Academy of Tango\, Buenos Aires)\, who also performs on viola. He is joined by Australian cabaret powerhouse Faye Bendrups (piano and voice) and acclaimed new-Canadian accordionist Anthony Schulz\, forming a trio that delivers Piazzolla’s music with grit\, elegance\, and ferocious heart. \nPiazzolla Unleashed is not nostalgia. It’s the music that changed Tango forever. \nTangoMundo \nMoberly Arts & Cultural Centre 7646 Prince Edwards Street\, Vancouver \nMay 03\, 2026 \n7PM \n$25 in advance\, $35 at the door

SUMMARY:Vince Mai Plays Miles + Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver is celebrating the 100th birthday of Jazz icon Miles Davis this May with a series of events covering every era of this musical trailblazer. Local trumpet legend Vince Mai Vince Mai will be performing music from some of Miles’ most memorable 1950s albums\, including Kind of Blue\, Walkin’\, Relaxin’ and more. \nGet Tickets\nAfter Vince’s live set\, enjoy Stanley Nelson’s definitive documentary. There will be two showtimes: 2-5pm and 7-10pm. \nVince Mai – trumpet\nSteve Kaldestad – Saxophone\nLaurence Mollerup – Bass\nMiles Black – Piano\nBernie Arai – Drums \nAbout the film: \nNelson’s fascinating biographical portrait might have used a couple more hours to really dig into the many shades and aspects of a complicated and conflicted man and an artist who was constantly reinventing himself\, but even if you’re a Miles Davis aficionado you will come away with unexpected insights and revelations from a stellar round up of interviewees\, supplemented with wonderful archival photographs and footage\, and excepts from Miles’s autobiography read by actor Carl Lumbly. If you enjoy the music but aren’t familiar with the story behind it\, this is the place to start. \nOne of the towering figures of the twentieth century\, Miles Davis took jazz to a pinnacle of perfection in his album Kind of Blue\, bringing tender\, aching grace notes to the frantic fury of bebop. He didn’t stop there\, always looking for new aural textures\, new shapes and sounds. \nA tantalizing portrait: rich\, probing\, mournful\, romantic\, triumphant\, tragic\, exhilarating\, and blisteringly honest… Immensely gratifying. \nOwen Gleiberman\, Variety \nEssential. \nRolling Stone
