SUMMARY:BUTOH JAZZ w/ Kokoro Dance\, Tony Wilson
DESCRIPTION:Kokoro and Infidels Jazz Presents: BUTOH JAZZ w/ Kokoro Dance\, Tony Wilson  \nGet Tickets\nDancers: \nBarbara Bourget\, Jay Hirabayashi and special guest Allison Lang \nMusicians: \nTony Wilson\, Daniel Kane\, Russell Sholberg and Jesus Caballero \nFrom Jay and Barbara: “Our Kokoro improvisation series give us opportunities to express ourselves in the moment with the fantastic stimulus of improvising jazz musicians of the highest caliber. We never know what they are going to play or what our responses will be. We know that it is always a conversation—a call from them and a response from us that is also a call back to them. It is harmony and dissonance colliding and colluding in both music and dance. It is exciting and adrenaline-producing enjoyment for us\, the musicians\, and our audiences.” \nTickets \nGeneral $25 \nSupporter $40 \nLocated 111 West Hastings Street Vancouver. Look for the KW sign off Hastings Street for the entrance. \nDoors at 7:00pm \nTwo Sets! \nShow at 8pm – 8:45pm – First Set \n9:10pm – 10:00pm – Second Set \nKW Studios is an accessible venue. Folks in need of an elevator can access one through the lobby entrance. Accessible bathrooms are available downstairs. KW events are both auditory and visual. Sound can be loud\, but earplugs can be provided free of charge. Lighting is generally lower but can be adjusted and raised to accommodate people who need brighter venues. \nThis event takes place on the unceded and occupied homelands of the Coast Salish peoples of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish)\, and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are immensely grateful for being allowed to continue to live\, work\, and play on these lands. \nKW events are NOTAFLOF (No one turn away for lack of funds) . NOTAFLOF tickets are of limited capacity. Please consider your financial need relative to folks in the DTES community where we reside before asking to pay less. We practice the policy NOTAFLOF specifically to allow access to folks negatively impacted by gentrification projects within the DTES community. If you are a student or low income worker\, please consider saving up for the next show as the artists and KW staff are also low income workers.

SUMMARY:Van Django + Lacombe Lucien Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the jazz guitar stylings of Romany maestro Django Reinhardt\, Van Django have been favourites on the local music scene for nearly three decades now. \nGet Tickets\nExpect flights of dazzling fancy\, driving rhythms and boundless creativity\, featuring original compositions and arrangements including humorous mash-ups wearing their eclectic influences in full regalia. For this\, their first VIFF Live concert\, they’ll be paired with a rare screening of Lacombe Lucien\, a Louis Malle film from 1974 that uses the music of Belgian Manouche legend Django Reinhardt extensively. \nViolin / Cameron Wilson\nGuitar / Budge Schachte\nGuitar & Cello / Finn Manniche\nBass / Brent Gubbels \nAfter the live music\, enjoy Louis Malle’s Lacombe Lucien (138 min). \nAbout the Film\nOne of the first French films to address the taboo issue of collaboration during the German occupation\, Louis Malle’s brave and controversial Lacombe\, Lucien traces a young peasant’s journey from potential Resistance member to Gestapo recruit. At once the story of a nation and one troubled boy\, the film is a disquieting portrait of lost innocence and guilt. \nA knockout. \nPauline Kael\, New Yorker \nA fascinating study of the potential for evil that lurks in the human heart\, balanced by stunningly beautiful images of the French countryside by cinematographer Tonino Delli Colli (Once Upon a Time in America) and a jaunty\, lovely score by the legendary Django Reinhardt. \nDVD Journal \nA masterwork… a complexly powerful depiction of complicity with evil that raises a number of questions (relevant now)… A singular achievement and one of the greatest of all French films. \nNoah Tsik\, Cineaste \n  \nCo-Presented with
