SUMMARY:Pacific Prairie Jazz Quintet
DESCRIPTION:From Winnipeg Manitoba\, saxophonists Anna Blackmore and Tristan Martinuson are alumni of the University of Manitoba Jazz Studies program who both studied under acclaimed NY saxophonist\, 1996 Thelonious Monk Competition winner and Phil Woods protégé\, Jon Gordon. With Gordon\, both earned a deep appreciation for the Jazz tradition\, which inspires their traditional playing styles and compositions. Having grown alongside each other as musicians on the bandstand with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra\, The TD Ottawa Jazz Fest Youth Ensemble\, Derrick Gardner’s Big Dig! Band and on Gordon’s 2021 Juno-nominated album Stranger Than Fiction\, they have spent the last two years making names for themselves in Vancouver as side musicians and are ready to showcase their talents as co-leaders.\nTenor & Soprano Saxophone – Tristan Martinuson\nBaritone & Alto Saxophone – Anna Blackmore\nPiano – Justin Juan\nBass – Riley Poystila\nDrums – Karl DeJong\nPass the Hat is a monthly series at the Lido presented by Tim Reinert & Infidels Jazz. At these shows\, a hat (debit and credit donations will also be accepted) will be passed around to all audience members\, to ensure that the musicians are paid fairly for their performance.\nAll funds collected will go directly to the musicians.\nSpecial thanks to Ben Frith for the poster design

SUMMARY:Julian Ferrer Trio
DESCRIPTION:Julian Ferrer is an all around drummer\, composer\, and educator based in Vancouver and Montreal. He is well-versed in playing diverse styles such as pop\, rock\, jazz and funk. His drumming style drew inspiration from innovators such as Max Roach\, Tony Williams and Philly Joe Jones to name a few. As a student at McGill University\, Julian has been mentored by modern-day drumming greats Darrell Green and Jim Doxas. He has shared the stage with notable Canadian jazz musicians such as Kevin Dean and Miles Black. Julian has played at notable venues around the country such as Tyrant Studios and Upstairs Jazz Club. He has also played for various bars\, cafes and church events. Julian’s versatile\, open-minded and aware playing style has permitted him to adapt to the different venues and musical settings.\nFor this special performance Julian will be joined by Paco Ha (Tenor Saxophone) & Raphael Agustin (Bass).\nThreesomes at the Heatley is a new monthly series curated and presented by Tim Reinert of Infidels Jazz. It takes place one Sunday night a month at this venerable East Van institution\, and features the best trios in today’s local jazz scene\nTickets are $10. The Heatley is at 696 E. Hastings.
