SUMMARY:Look Out for Hope + Bill Frisell: A Portrait
DESCRIPTION:Look Out For Hope celebrates the unique guitar sound of Bill Frisell who has been inspiring audiences and musicians all over the world since the 1980s. \nGet Tickets\nFor their VIFF Live concert\, Lookout For Hope will play some of Frisell’s most recognizable songs\, along with some deep cuts. This performance will be paired with Bill Frisell: A Portrait\, a 2017 documentary about the guitar legend directed by Emma Franz. \nBradshaw Pack – Pedal Steel Guitar\nKarlis Silins – Bass\nKenton Loewen – Drums\nAnthony Schulz – Accordion \nAbout the Film: Bill Frisell: A Portrait (Emma Franz\, Australia\, 2017\, 114 min) \nA character portrait of anti-archetype guitar hero\, Bill Frisell\, this nuanced film traces the ideas and processes that shaped Frisell’s music\, and provides rare insight into the mind and personality of one of the significant musicians of recent decades. Full of live music\, revealing stories\, and intimate access to the normally reclusive Frisell\, various collaborations are followed from development to fruition\, including the last ever performance of the Paul Motian Trio with Frisell and Joe Lovano. Interviewees include Paul Motion\, Bonnie Raitt\, Hal Willner\, Paul Simon\, Nels Cline \nBill Frisell plays the guitar like Miles Davis played the trumpet: in the hands of such radical thinkers\, their instruments simply become different animals. \n The New Yorker \nOne of the most compelling\, entertaining and informative films made about a living music legend who still has plenty left to say. \nJohn Kelman\, All About Jazz \nAn intimate\, behind-the-scenes look at the modest and reticent Frisell at home\, onstage\, and in the studio\, providing firsthand glimpses of his creative process. \nJay Trachtenberg\, Austin Chronicle
