DESCRIPTION:Violin improvisations with Vancouver’s most exciting musicians \nGet Tickets\nParmela Attariwala has been at the forefront of the Canadian creative music scene for decades\, having worked with Carla Bley\, Don Thompson\, Anthony Braxton\, the NOW Orchestra\, and many other luminaries in her roles as composer\, violinist\, and bandleader. \nShe’ll be performing her first Infidels show on January 31 as part of the New Thing\, collaborating with Julia Ulehla (vocals)\, Cole Schmidt (guitar) & John Brennan (Drums). \nThe New Thing is a monthly series featuring the best of Vancouver’s creative & improvised music scene. DESCRIPTION:Clara Lin is a pianist and vocalist based in Vancouver\, originally from China. Classically trained from a young age\, she holds a BM in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music and an MM in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. These experiences helped her grow alongside some of the best musicians and develop her versatility and skill. Clara recently released her single\, “You and I.”\nFor Clara\, music is more than just a career—it’s a way of life she can’t live without\, and a language for connecting and spending time with friends. In this show\, she will be leading a trio featuring her favorrite friends—bassist Emilio Suárez and drummer Karl DeJong—for a night of soulful\, joyful\, and swinging music in tribute to jazz legend Nina Simone.\nFrankie’s After Dark takes place every Friday & Saturday night at Frankie’s Jazz Club (755 Beatty) at 11PM. Tickets are $10 and are added to your bill at the end of the night. This series is curated & presented by Infidels Jazz.
